What We Do



Vision

To be the preferred advocate and recognized voice of business in the greater Hagerstown-Washington County area.

Mission

The Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce provides programs and services that meet the business & professional needs of our members while promoting efforts to make the community a great place to live & work.

The Chamber is a private, tax-exempt membership organization. It is not part of local government and receives no government subsidies. Though the Chamber is a member of the Maryland Chamber and the U.S. Chamber, it is completely independent of those and other Chambers of Commerce. Think of the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber as a local small business whose products and services help other businesses be more successful. In practice, our mission breaks out into three main areas:

  • Serve the Members - The Chamber sponsors professional development and educational programs that respond to what members tell us they want. We also have an aggressive Member-to-Member Benefits program that includes discounts at member companies, and complimentary local publications, and discount programs for both insurance and electricity.
  • Community Development - Much of what we do is designed to make the Washington County a better place to work and live. We host programs that recognize outstanding contributions from our business community and sponsor events that mix business with pleasure. Often described as the "softer side" of our mission, this includes everything from golf tournaments to blood drives to awards programs.
  • Advocacy - Key to pursuing our vision, the Chamber has an aggressive strategy to represent the business community both in the media and with government leaders. We are in constant contact with local officials, we develop an annual state legislative agenda, we hire a lobbyist each year to represent businesses in Annapolis, and we have close relationships with our congressional delegation. This level of activism ensures that our members' voices are heard at every level of government.
